Eduard Petzold

After his apprenticeship in Muskau and his first park designs in and around Eisenach, Petzold began his service at the Weimar Court in 1844 as Court Gardener in Ettersburg. In 1845, together with Hermann Prince von Pückler-Muskau, he carried out the great “Aushau” [entension] at Ettersberg (“Pücklerschlag” [Pückler Stroke). From 1845 to 1850, he redesigned parts of the Tiefurt Park and from 1848 to 1852 the Ilm Park. Furthermore, Petzold was responsible, among other things, for the planning of the redesign of the Castle Park in Sondershausen. In 1852, Petzold went to Muskau and completed the park there by 1869. His sphere of activity as a garden artist extended beyond the German region. He also wrote numerous important garden-theoretical writings and books.
