Elector Friedrich II, the Gentle of Saxony

Elector Friedrich II constantly quarrelled with his brother Wilhelm III about land and power.
This dispute was one of the reasons for the spectacular abduction of the Saxon princes: In 1455 the knight Kunz von Kaufungen abducted the sons of the elector, Ernst and Albrecht, from Altenburg Castle in order to push through his claims resulting from the fratricidal war.
However, the princes were freed soon after and Kunz von Kaufungen was executed.
Later the Princes Ernst and Albrecht divided the land and established the Ernestinian and Albertinian lines.
