The former Princely Palace, a simple baroque town castle centrally located in the town on Schlossplatz (Castle Square), was built from 1729 to 1734 on behalf of Prince Günther I of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen. Today, it houses the Arnstadt Castle Museum with its unique collection. Discover the worldwide unique doll collection "Mon plaisir". The unique doll town - a work of Princess Auguste Dorothea of Schwarburg-Arnstadt - conveys a detailed image of a small German residential town in the first half of the 18th century. In addition, the Bach exhibition in the castle museum presents the work of young Johann Sebastian Bach in Arnstadt (1703-1707). Here you can discover the original organ play table where Bach once played music. This attracts thousands of music enthusiasts from all over the world every year.
Nevertheless, a visit to the three-winged New Palace itself is already worth a visit. The former suite of the prince has been preserved in the baroque room settings of the southern Beletage. Experience the princely living and lifestyle of the 18th century. One highlight not to be missed is the Mirror and Porcelain Cabinet, which has been preserved in its original state from the time of its construction, as well as the Picture Cabinet, Audience Room and Ceremonial Hall. Almost a thousand porcelain objects from the 16th to 18th centuries are displayed on hundreds of carved and gilded consoles. In addition, you can marvel at eleven Flemish tapestries. The tapestries, including the fascinating monkey tapestries, can be traced back to 1559, when they were in the possession of the Schwarzburgs for the first time.
