Known as the "Theater Duke," Georg II was a prominent figure among the rulers of Saxe-Meiningen, revolutionizing German and European theater and leaving a lasting mark on it. When he took the throne in 1866, he also began reorganizing the court theater and court orchestra, thus creating the conditions for the top artistic performances and magnificent guest tours of both ensembles. In addition to his residence in Meiningen, he left his mark on other castles, such as Altenstein and Heldburg.
