Elector Friedrich II the Gentle of Saxony

Elector Friedrich II was in a constant dispute with his brother Wilhelm III about land and power. The conflict was one of the causes of the spectacular Saxon Prince Robbery: in 1455, the knight Kunz von Kauffungen abducted the Elector's sons, Ernst and Albrecht, from Altenburg Castle in order to enforce his demands resulting from the fratricidal war.
However, the princes were soon freed, and Kunz von Kauffungen was executed. Later, the Princes Ernst and Albrecht divided the land in 1485, establishing the Ernestine and Albertine lines.
