1250 years of city history – the Friedenstein Festival begins today in Gotha

Today, Friedenstein Palace– Gotha's landmark and member of the Treasure Chamber of Thuringia – kicks off the grand Friedenstein Festival under the motto ‘1250 Years of Gotha's History’. It marks the festive conclusion of Gotha's anniversary year and invites visitors to embark on an exciting journey through time.

Visitors can look forward to a varied program: light installations bathe the Schlossberg in festive glow, a colourful parade, historical rides, a spectacular high-wire show by the Weisheit siblings and a rousing musical ensure unforgettable moments.

The festival also has a lot to offer culturally: guided tours of the ducal chambers and the unique Friedenstein collections provide insights into the history of the castle, while the exhibition ‘GOTHA GENIAL?!’ in the Ducal Museum presents inventions and ideas from 1250 years of city history.

A special highlight is the Friedenstein Express, which takes guests on an atmospheric ride around the castle grounds. Admission to the castle courtyard is free, and admission to the museum rooms is reduced by 50%.
