To describe Pückler's passion for garden art, a new word had to be invented: “parkomania”. Above all, England's gardens left a deep impression on him. He summarized his insights into landscape gardening and the ideas for Muskau Park in his “Intimations on Landscape Gardening”. Pückler advanced to become a sought-after advisor in matters of garden art. During his visits to Thuringia, Pückler was asked for advice on the design of the parks in Ettersburg and Wilhelmsthal, among others. The design of the landscape park on the Altenstein was significantly influenced by Pückler. In 1845, he personally directed parts of the work in the park.
Here, Pückler repeatedly showed his enthusiasm for the natural spatial conditions and the outstanding possibilities of the park design on the Altenstein.
