Johann Sebastian Bach

Johann Sebastian Bach worked from 1703 to 1707 in Arnstadt. He found ideal conditions here that would have a lasting effect on his future professional and private life.
Because of his expert knowledge of organ-building, the 18-year-old was invited to the Neue Kirche to approve the new organ there.
After putting the instrument to the test with his virtuoso playing, he was given his first post as organist. Free of responsibility for any additional jobs, the young organist had plenty of time to devote to his music studies and compositions. In 1707 he married his first wife, Maria Barbara, in nearby Dornheim and took up a new position at St. Blasius Church in Mühlhausen.
